Give yourself compassion
My psychologist would say
You did the best you could
For growing up that way
A life of complex trauma
Has made changes to your brain
It's not that you are crazy
Just your amigdila’s insane
It’s a quite normal adaption
To a quite abnormal life
And all of your defenses
Kept you going through tough nights
They do not serve you now
But they served you well before
Your brain just needs to realize
That’s not your life no more
Talk kindly to the child in you
Who lived that daily hell
She did the best she could
For her and you as well
Her sacrifice kept you alive
When there was no will to live
She gave you everything she had
But there wasn't much to give
No sense of clear identity
No safety, peace, or joy
She was not allowed to simply be
More like her mother's toy
So don't hate her for making you
The person that you are
The scars you bare are proof
That she has carried you this far
If there ever was the little girl
Who deserve to find releif
It the one who's stolen childhood
Left her drowning in such greif
So tell her when you see her
How much that she is loved
Stroke her hair, give her comfort
It's a tough road she has trudged
And remember when she acts out
As we all know that she will
That that fire that's inside her
Is the reason you live still
